Gay Outdoor Club: Cycling

Many club members enjoy cycling—on-road and off-road—and there are a number of cycling events throughout the year. We like to enjoy leisurely rides—taking in a pub lunch and finishing somewhere for afternoon tea. There are always day rides of about 40 miles at the Annual Meeting, which normally attract 15-20 cyclists. Also, individual members get together to organise small cycle-touring holidays, including trips to the continent of Europe and sometimes further afield. While some local groups have enough cyclists to run a cycling programme during the year, not all groups manage to—often it only needs a keen volunteer to start a cycling programme. Check details with your local group contact, and if nothing is happening why not volunteer?

In the South, we draw your attention to the London-based Cycleout, a GOC Affiliate. Cycleout organises rides throughout the year in London and all around the Home Counties. Cycleout also has a couple of trips abroad each year, including a week long spring trip to Mallorca, based in the gay hotel in Palma. Fifteen cyclists have attended in each of the past three years to enjoy some early sunshine and get fit for the season. Cycleout events are open to any GOC member to join. Further details may be found on the Cycleout website.
