Outdoor Club: Walking
Walking
is the traditional backbone of the Club, and the level of commitment
varies from easy afternoon strollssometimes with refreshment
before, during and after!through to strenuous walks over high
moorland and long-distance events.
Scrambling and mountain-walking are offered by groups in the appropriate
areas, with more strenuous events still covered by the Mountaineering
Group.
Every single GOC area group offers walking of some kind, and the
co-ordination of events is precisely what you are reading now: the
listings, which appear on the website, in the yearbook, and in more
detail in the monthly Newsletter. Every weekend of the year generally
offers a whole range of walks, and members in any area are of course
at liberty to join the events of any other group in the country.
Nor is GOC walking confined to our overall local area, Britain.
A Kentish group regularly visits the continent for walking opportunities,
and there are walking trips abroad which are normally advertised
as one-off events in the Newsletter. Such trips might include trekking
and long-distance walking, hut-to-huts, but could also include trips
with a botanical or geological study content.
Walking
programme information can be found by selecting details for
the appropriate local group
