Sunday
13 January. A 6 mile town walk through the Fairlands valley
park and both the new and old towns of Stevenage. Most surfaces
are firm under foot to reflect the possible conditions to
be found in January. Bring packed lunch. Meet at Six Hills
Way car park, Stevenage.
Saturday 9 February. A walk of 9 miles in all common
terrains along Dunstable/Whipsnade Downs and around the fields,
calling in at the Whipsnade Tree Cathedral and Studham church.
Car park will cost £1 (free for members of the National
Trust). Bring a packed lunch and something to sit on for lunch.
Please wear sturdy boots. Meet at Chilterns Gateway (Visitors')
Centre, Dunstable Downs.
Saturday 8 March. Meet at Pishiobury Car Park, A1184,
Sawbridgeworth. The walk will be a circular walk of about
8 miles taking in the River Stort, the historic town of Sawbridgeworth
and surrounding countryside. Bring packed lunch.
Saturday 12 April. Meet at pavillion car park, Cholesbury.
A walk of 11½ miles, up and down a few valleys in the
mid-Chilterns, Buckinghamshire. Terrain is hilly, little on
the flat, on clay, chalk and road. This is a physically demanding
walk. Bring packed lunch.
Saturday 10 May. Three Rivers Walk: Ware. A walk of
8 miles along the banks of 3 Hertsfordshire rivers - the Lee,
the Rib and the Ash - featuring riverbanks and rolling countryside.
The route includes Ware, Thundridge and the beautiful Ash
Valley. Meet
at Ware Railway Station. Parking is available at the station
and will incur a fee. Wear
study walking boots. Bring a packed lunch.
Saturday 14 June. Meet at Langley Upper Green, Essex.
A walk into three counties - Herts, Cambs and Essex. Bring
a packed lunch. Distance 11½ miles.
Saturday 12 July.
Meet at village church, Ardeley. Bring a packed lunch.
Saturday 9 August. Meet at Hertford East Railway Stationn.
A cycle ride from Hertford East, south towards north London.
Return journey by train. Some offroad terrain, but not onerous:
town bikes will suffice. Bring puncture repair kit and packed
lunch.
Saturday
9 August. [confirmation: two events, same day, same starting
point]. This walk is a point-to-point walk through Hertford's
own local countryside. The walk starts from Hertford East
Railway Station and ends at Broxbourne. Bring packed lunch
and the train fare for the return journey (unless you want
to walk!).
Saturday 13 September. Meet at war memorial, Kings
Lane, Chipperfield. A 12½-mile walk including fields,
woods, hills and roads. Be warned, the steepest hill is near
the end of the walk. There are 2 free car parks close by.
Please bring a packed lunch. There will be a typical country
pub at hand to reward those who complete the walk.
Saturday 11 October. Meet at Ashwell village church
for a 7 mile circular walk.
Bring a packed lunch.
Saturday 8 November. A walk of about 8-10 miles, mainly
off-road. Further details will appear here nearer the time.
