Outdoor Club: Oxford Walks 2008

Saturday
7 June. An
8 mile walk in the Evenlode Valley north-west of Oxford, visiting
a Roman villa.
Pub lunch or picnic on village green. Meet at the parking
area opposite the parish church in North Leigh (off the A4095
Witney to Woodstock road). Trains from Reading or Oxford to
Hanborough. If you are coming by train, please contact co-ordinator
in advance to arrange a lift to the starting point.
Saturday 5 July. A 7 mile walk along the Thames Path from
Abingdon to Oxford. Meet at the Redbridge Park & Ride,
Oxford (note that there is a parking charge) from where we
will take the bus to Abingdon. Alternatively meet at The Old
County Hall in Abingdon. No pub on route so bring packed lunch.
Possible pub stop at end of walk.
Saturday 2 August. An 8 mile circular walk in the vicinity
of Wittenham Clumps SSSI. Meet at the Kingfisher pub on the
corner of A4074 and Wharf Lane, Shillingford. Parking in Wharf
Lane. Packed lunch required.
Saturday 6 September. An 8 mile circular walk around
Yarnton near Oxford including a section of Shakespeare's Way
and the Oxford Canal. Meet on the corner of Godstow Road/Wolvercote
Green. Parking for a few cars in Wolvercote Green road. Packed
lunch required.
Saturday 4 October. Meet at entrance to Peasmoor Park
in Copse Lane, Marston, Oxford. Take bus 13 from Oxford rail
station or St Aldates to Copse Lane East stop. Alternatively,
park in Copse Lane or nearby streets. An 8 mile walk through
some of Oxford's green areas and by the River Cherwell to
Marston village. Bring packed lunch, there are pubs en route.
All are invited to tea afterwards.
Saturday 1 November. A scenic walk of 8 miles passes
through a variety of landscapes in a most beautiful part of
Oxfordshire. We will walk through the Wychwood Forest, once
a Royal hunting ground and cross the Cornbury Park estate.
Hopefully the autumn colours will be at their best. Meet at
Charlbury railway station. Trains available from Oxford to
Charlbury. There is no pub stop en route so please bring a
packed lunch. There will be opportunity for refreshment at
the end of the walk.
